Heat pumps are an alternative to oil or gas dependent heating systems. Heat pumps are powered by electricity, which you can generate through solar energy, and they extract heat from a medium, which through a compression process can be used for heating or hot water.
There are 3 types of heat pumps, which differ mainly in the medium used. Air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and groundwater heat pumps. Geothermal and groundwater heat pumps require a borehole to be drilled into the ground, which may require a permit, but are more efficient compared to air heat pumps because air cools down more in the winter months.
Approximately 80% of the energy consumption of German households is due to heating and hot water supply. By switching to an electric heat pump + PV system, you improve your CO² emissions enormously. Where oil and gas were necessary in the past, you can now heat with clean electricity from a solar system. Become independent of rising oil and gas prices.
